This loft kitchen renovation in downtown Brooklyn was for a professional chef who wanted an upgrade to his culinary home base.
Did You Know?: The BellTel Lofts building at 365 Bridge Street in Brooklyn was originally built in 1929 as the HQ for the New York Telephone Company, before eventually being turned to luxury lofts. The BellTel is widely considered the first skyscraper in Brooklyn.
We have extremely high standards for every luxury kitchen design we undertake, but when a professional chef hired us for his Brooklyn kitchen remodel, the bar was immediately raised. Not only did we need an extremely functional kitchen he could operate in, but the space needed to be presentable on camera, so he could shoot cooking content to share with his audience. To ensure no ingredients were missed in our renovation recipe, we collaborated with the owner on the design concept and wound up creating a five-star space that left the owner giving the chef's kiss of approval.
Like most NYC lofts, the overall aesthetic was more modern and contemporary. So, a flat, sleek design played well in this Brooklyn renovation, especially with the clean, two-tone navy and white color scheme.
We wound up reconfiguring the space, creating a new peninsula and placing between the windows, to leverage additional natural light and offer more of a true serving station. The peninsula offers a beautiful flowing waterfall edge with bookmatch finish.
The man-made quartz counter and backsplash we chose not only elevated the kitchen aesthetic, but provided a practical workspace for the chef. Notice there are no grout lines, making the counter extremely easy to clean after a full course dinner. Plus, the quartz isn't porous (like marble, for instance), and constant maintenance isn't needed.
We've all been gifted kitchen appliances, and rarely do we have places to put them. Well, our Brooklyn chef here had every cooking gadget imaginable. This required us to get extremely creative with the cabinetry, creating custom shelving and pull-outs to accessorize everything ideally. Like they say, when there's an ice cream maker, there's a way.
